The city of Montreal in Quebec, Canada is known for its cultural diversity, innovation, and international appreciation. Hopfenstark Brewery, a small but prolific brewery based 30km away in nearby L’Assomption, clearly reflects the same values.

Since its beginning in 2006, Hopfenstark has produced a diverse range of balanced beers, drawing inspiration from across the globe: pale ales, IPAs and Barley wines with American influence; Kölsch, Alt, Berliner Weisse, and Helles contributions of Germanic descent; and Belgian styles like Saisons and Tripels.

One of their strengths as a Quebec brewery is the focus on blending of cultures and traditions, and adding their own individual stamp in order to create something really special. Take their delicious Boson de Higgs, for example – a BerlinerRauchSaison. It’s a tart, light-bodied Berliner Weisse of sorts, incorporating spiciness from the Saison yeast and a restrained smoke character, for a refreshing and flavourful beer that is totally inimitable.

Germany, and especially Berlin, holds a special place in brewmaster Fred Cormier’s heart, and its film culture, music, art and history inspire him every day.

We are honoured to welcome Fred and Hopfenstark at the Muted Horn on Saturday, April 8th!

Join us to taste 6 different beers on tap, meet the brewer, and take a few special bottles home too. Tap list to be announced soon!
