We are very excited to announce a four-year vertical tasting of rare vintage sours from Portland’s Cascade Brewing! Cascade has been a pioneer in the sour beer renaissance since 2006 and is the proud innovator of the Northwest Sour Ale.

We have four-year verticals of the following Cascade bottles to share:
• Apricot (Vertical, 4×0,75L - 2013, 2014, 2015, & 2016)
• Blueberry (Vertical, 4×0,75L - 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016)
• Figaro (Vertical, 4×0,75L - 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015)
• Kriek (Vertical, 4×0,75L - 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016)

These bottles are available in extremely small quantities - we only have one of each. Therefore, this is a ticketed event, and spots in each tasting are first-come, first-served.

Every set of 4×0,75L bottles will be shared between six people (4×0,125L pours per person). Once six people have signed up to taste a specific set, those bottles will be considered sold out. If your first pick is sold out, we can register you for the second pick, and so on.

Each ticket is 23,00€ and includes 4×0,125L pours (one from each vintage year) plus a cheese pairing with crackers and fruit.

To reserve your spot, please send us an email (info@themutedhorn.com) or a Facebook message, listing out the set (or sets) of beers you would like to try. If you are interested in tasting multiple varietals, please rank your selection in order of preference.

Join us for a special opportunity to celebrate four unique sets of Cascade vintages!

Q: Do I have to choose just one set? What if I want to try all four kinds?
A: You may sign up for just one set (4 beers), or you can try all four varietals (16 beers total).
The four sets of bottles will be opened 20 minutes apart, so if you want to try all four sets, you can!

Q: What if there are fewer than six people registered to taste a specific set?
A: If we don’t receive requests from six people to taste a specific set of beers, this set of four bottles will be excluded from the tasting. If you are one of the 5 or fewer people who requested to try that beer, we will update you and then you can choose a different beer.

Q: What is a Northwest Sour Ale?
A: Cascade Brewing applies the term Northwest Sour Ale to their beers as a way of defining their product outside the parameters of the common preset categories of beer. These northwest sour ales are barrel-aged and feature a clean, lactic acid profile produced by their own house culture of lactobacillus bacteria. Another major component of their northwest sour ale includes use of fresh ingredients grown exclusively in the Pacific Northwest, such as cherries, apricots, berries and grapes.

APRICOT:
Apricot is a 7.2% blend of sour blond ales that were aged in oak wine barrels for up to 14 months. For the 2016 batch, unfruited sour blond ale was barrel aged for over seven months before adding in more than 13,000 pounds of fresh apricots in tanks and barrels for an additional seven months of aging. The Apricot project has been pivotal in the evolution of Cascade Brewing’s identity as a producer of Northwest sour ales since 2007.

BLUEBERRY:
Blueberry is an 8.5% blend of sour wheat and blond ales that were aged in white wine barrels for up to 12 months with more than 8,000 pounds of fresh blueberries. The 2016 growing season delivered fruit with elegant blueberry aromatics, providing clean fruit expression to this blend complemented by the dry, cereal grain notes of the beer with hints of lemon, violets, a soft oak presence and lively acidity.

FIGARO:
Figaro is a 9.0% blend of sour Strong Blond ales aged in chardonnay barrels for up to 18 months with white figs, lemon peel and orange peel. Freshly emptied chardonnay barrels from the Willamette Valley wine region are filled with Cascade strong blond ale, imparting a complex white wine character to the beer with a hint of oak. After several months of maturation, lemon peel, orange peel and dried white figs are added to each barrel to allow a slow, steady fruit fermentation to take place.

KRIEK:
Kriek is a 7.4% blend of sour red ales aged in oak wine barrels for up to 17 months with Bing and sour pie cherries. As one of Cascade Brewing’s earliest and most recognized beers, Kriek has been a staple in their portfolio of Northwest sour ales and continues to be a flagship project that represents the soul of our craft. Kriek 2016 features complex flavors of cherries, roast malts, oak and spice.
